AI shortcut - Focus on your skills not shiny tools

The 2025 edition of the AI 50 list shows how companies are using agents and reasoning models to start replacing work previously done by people at scale, here’s some tips for dealing with the huge number of tools coming onto the market

  1. Overwhelm is natural - pick a tool and stick with it

    • With so much money being pumped into AI tools ,there’s lots of news and noise. Pick a tool and stick with it.

  2. Text is the best entry point

    • Text is the easiest interface to learn with. Mastering text unlocks transferable skills like structuring tasks, prompting clearly, and iterating effectively.

  3. Learning by doing

    • You won’t learn by reading about AI’s progress, but by practicing it. We think it takes around 10 hours of using a text prompting tool before you get real value, so stick with it.

  4. Don’t get freaked out by Agents

    • The big shift ‘behind the scenes’ are from chatbots that respond to prompts toward AI that executes full workflows. If you’re working in a non technical role, get comfortable with text prompting and using LLMs, this will set you up for success as your organisation roles out agents.
